Minutes
Those Present: Ann Dockweiler, Sarah Thomas, Kristi Johnson, Sandy Roes, Dawn Brammer, Jill Mack, Don King, Kim Madsen, Sherri Blome, Jamie Goffena, Jay Sutliffe

 Old Business  

 

1. Walking Routes Update


a. Brochures: Ann gave an update stating that the CSC Graphic Arts students and Mary Donahue are progressing with the brochures.

b. Equipment: it was reported that the costs of steel has sky-rocketed making the new bid, from Play Solutions, for the outdoor fitness equipment at $20,666.06 including materials for installation. An LB 840 grant proposal was circulated for review to be submitted to the City ASAP for making up the shortfall of $10,666.06.

Since each bid was good for only 30 days it was suggested that we ask for a total of 90 days for this current bid.

 

 2. Website update: Chuck sent a message that if we have any updates to the website or need to post anything to contact him via the email on the website under "questions" (questions@chadronwellness.com). There was concern that the email was working properly and it was checked out and found to be operating fine. Our website is www.chadronwellness.com

3. Lose & Win Update: Dawn provided an update of the current contest. There are 16 females and 5 males signed up along with 3 teams competing. We will also verify with Play Solutions if they we still honor their original $400 pledge towards prizes.

4. Fit4Life Update: Sarah stated that things are off and rolling with her program. She has an intern assisting with the project.

5. National Physical Therapy 5K & 10K: Jim sent a message stating that he can use some help at each aspect of this event. Ann state that the CSC Sports Medicine Club is looking at getting involved. Jill stated that she would look into having the Health Professions Club consider helping as well.

6. Home Town Competiveness (HTC) Update: not sure when the next meeting is. Unable to verify before meeting today.

 New Business  
 

 1. Update from Sub-Committees

a. Events
b. Facility: discussed reviving the efforts of trying to get a community wellness center. Kristi, Sandy, Tom Park, Bev, Jay & Terry Owen are the ones on this sub-committee.
c. Fundraising: we currently have $10,500.00 in the bank account. The majority is from the BC/BS grant.
d. Legal
e. PR/promotion

2. City Survey outcome: Sandy provided several copies of recent City survey regarding the Chadron community and economic development. She will investigate the details of when the survey was completed as well as the number of individuals completing the survey and how the survey was conducted.

3. Worksite Wellness - PPHD: Jessica was unable to attend via phone so we will discuss this next month.

4. Planning for the future: 2008 Calendar

a. Relay for Life???: it was asked that we consider looking at organizing the Relay for Life. It was stated that the Relay for Life is a national event and has a lot of the funds generated going for administrative fees. Donna Ritzen and others have been the area organizers and are considering organizing an event that would funnel funds directly to our area citizens.

b. Linda Rischling's items: we discussed the items Linda sent to the meeting and how we can support the events. Jump Rope for Heart, Dance for the Health of It, All Recreate Fridays, Kids in Motion, N-Lighten Kids, and International Walk to School Day (Oct. 8). Sandy will check on funding available for some of the programming.

c. Child Development Annual Conference: Kim extended an invitation for our team or individuals to have a session and/or booth/display at her 20th Annual Excellence in Early Childhood Conference on February 20-21, 2008. There are several interested in helping out and we will discuss the options next month.


5. Other agenda items:

a. Interns: we discussed the possibility of CSC students serving as interns for our Lifespan Wellness Team.

b. Dental Clinic: Chadron has been awarded a federal grant to provide a dental clinic with fees based on ability to pay (income). This is being coordinated through the UNMC dental school in Lincoln and hope to be open in 90 days.

c. CCR Board Meeting: Sarah will attend the Oct. 8th Chadron Community Recreation meeting (7:00 PM) to provide an update of what we are doing.
